So, uh, yeah.  All that stuff I was saying about the Sedins in the first round is just as true now.  The amazing thing to me isn't that they got embarrassed at home, it's that they somehow managed to get to game seven of the finals with a large chunk of the team having no business being there.  Will the team have the balls to dump the Sedins after "coming so close"?  I bet no, but I also predict the Sedins never win a cup.  Sometimes a team can carry an overpaid dead weight like Marion Hossa, it's a lot harder to carry two thirds of its top line and its captain.

So, how about that baseball?

Welcome to the great sports slumber!

Hopefully all the good news about NFL talks are real and there can be a deal by early July.

I'm not holding my breath, but at least they're talking again. I am looking forward to the CFL season, though.  I just need to find somebody in Vancouver to go to games with.

I don't know how soon I will get a CFL game honestly, but I'd like to go see an NFL game this year, assuming they actually happen. I am huge NFL fan and have never been to a game in person...

Sadly enough, it sounds like Jim Harbaugh is pretty high on him at this point.

I assume Smith must give great blowjobs and make damn fine coffee, because his on field play has never justified all of the love he gets from his coaches. I know he's been through a lot, but still, six years later...

I think it's more likely that Harbaugh knows the guy they drafted won't be ready for two or three years, doesn't want to waste draft picks trading for somebody like Kolb when all they want is a stopgap, and doesn't like anybody who's available in free agency.  All of which makes perfect, logical sense, but I still won't pay money to watch Alex piss away winnable games.  I may even not get Sunday Ticket this season.

As an addendum, I'm not saying "Anyone would be better than Alex Smith," because I saw David Carr last year and he is worse.  Really not sure why they kept Carr and let Troy Smith go, he may not have good mechanics or pocket awareness, but at least he can hit an open receiver with a pass.  That's a skill that I think gets majorly underrated.

I liked watching Troy more than either Smith or Carr. Maybe he wasn't picking things up well or adapting well, but on the field, he felt like he had a lot more potential than either of those two.

Yup.  The worst was the game where they started Troy, and then switched to Alex late in the game.  Because obviously you take the guy out who has led a couple of late-game comebacks and put in the choke artist.  However, at least they actually drafted a QB before the fifth round.  There is an actually QB of the future on the roster for the first time since the Alex debacle started.

I am not even anti-Smith really, I am just amazed how long he has managed to hold on when he turns up mediocre every year. I keep pulling for him. Thinking maybe this will be his break out year. Just never happens...

The Flyers just traded away their captain Mike Richards and one of their top scorers in Jeff Carter.  I'm completely shocked, those are the sorts of guys you don't trade away ever.  Especially Richards, he was the captain of what was probably the best team ever at the World Juniors during the strike year, and he's captained the Flyers to some pretty good seasons in his brief NHL career.

Not only are they both top-line forwards, they're also signed for very reasonable salaries, forever (9 years for Richards, a ridiculous 11 for Carter).  They got decent value back in Simmonds, Schenn and a high first rounder, but still.  Richards is a guy I've always wished played for a team I like, because he's the kind of guy you build a team around.  And Carter is one of those big power forwards with soft hands that are so hard to come by.  Carter and Nash on the same line?  Fuck me.

Hi lwf.

How about that NFL? Maybe they'll get this lockout thing resolved soon unless the players want to be dicks about it.

I have to say I'm pretty surprised there could be a season after all. I really thought it was going to be a lost year. I was actually hoping for that because I could use my Sundays for schoolwork this year. Can't drop out of PCFFL though.

Really? I never had doubt that there would be a season. I think it could have gone as far as a lost pre-season (or abbreviated one, and that might still happen) but I didn't think they would cancel the whole year. Doing so would have wrecked them for more than the life of the deal they would negotiate.

Is there going to be a PCFFL? Who knows what happened to trunks. Is is doing it? If not, can we pay in his place? Lots of questions.

Seeing as how we aren't doing a keeper league, I don't see why we would be dependent on Trunks.  We can start a new league on CBSSportsline or anywhere else.

As far as the lockout, I'm hearing conflicting reports.  Some people say the players are being dicks, others are saying the owners are being dicks by claiming there was a deal in place when there wasn't.

The owners did make a dick move yesterday. Voted on a deal they created, announced the lockout was done, told players that they could back to the facilities on Sat and told everyone it was cheering time while patting themselves on the back... except the players never approved the deal and hadn't even read it through yet.

That said, it will probably happen soonish. I would not be surprised if we missed a couple of preseason games. Players already established don't like those anyway.

Yeah, it seems in the players' interest to miss some preseason games, since I don't think they get full salary for them.

It's not like they really play in them. Regardless that'll mean less revenue for the whole year and I'm not sure how that would affect the agreement.

Me too. Especially since all the rumors say... IT'S BAAAAAAAACK!

The next few days of free agent signings should be really interesting. Especially for teams that are well under the minimum requirement to spend, like the Bucs. They have to spend 50mil. This year. A few times are in a spot like that and there are only so many free agents...

Yeah that's great for the game. Some team will probably end up signing Herschel Walker for 20 mil a year just to get up to the floor.
